The dreaded 'time of the month'. Every woman has to go through the upsetting reality that is the monthly period. And if you don't, you're either very lucky, or something else is going on.

I've just had a particularly nasty one this week, TMI?, and I know there are a ton of 'period comfort' posts out there, but I wanted to write one myself because... well, why not? There can never be enough advice or tips on how to get through the worst of your periods.

So obviously, everyone experiences their period in a different way. Some last longer, some shorter. Some feel pain, some barely feel anything at all. Some get upset stomachs, some get headaches. It all depends on you. So while I can't help with genetics, I can help with the symptoms! At least, the ones I'm familiar with.

1| Midol; This is not always my go to, admittedly. I only resort to Midol or Ibuprofen when my cramps are at their worst and I have to go out. It's not like we can avoid going places when we have our periods, unfortunately. I've called out of work when it's gotten pretty bad and I can't move without feeling like someone is stabbing me in the uterus, but for the most part, Midol does it's job.

2| Heat; I think this goes without saying, heat is probably one of the best things that you can do for yourself. Now, I'm no expert, so forgive me if this is completely wrong. Because we're 'cleaning' out so much blood, the heat helps attract more blood to the area and eases the flow. Maybe. I'm not one hundred percent on that, all I know is that when it doubt, the heat comes out.

3| Tea; Now I'm not saying that tea is a miracle worker. What I am saying is that when you have an upset stomach along with your period, tea can most definitely help. And the heat, heat!, feels good as well. Yogi makes a tea called Moon Cycle, specifically for periods. However, any tea will really do. At least for me. I prefer green tea or a nice lavender tea. Lavender helps to calm and soothe anyway, so it's just an added bonus.

4| Soups;
Again, with the heat! The sweet comforting heat! I know this post is starting to sound like you have a cold, but I'm super serious about the soup. Ramen is the freaking best because of all the sodium. I don't know about you, but I CRAVE salt when my period comes around. I hate it, but at the time, I'm in love with it. So Ramen is the best course of action for me. Of course, when I get super desperate, a trip to the closest fast food french fry is in order. But I really try not too. However, when the period demands something, you need to cater to it.

5| Stretching/Yoga; I know, I know. The last thing you want to do when you feel like you're being ripped in half is to get up and move around. This seriously helps though. It gets the blood flowing and that's good news for you because it won't get all clotted up down there in the piping. (Ick, bad analogy). Anyway, I don't do yoga expertly, but finding a simple video on Youtube is the easiest thing. And you'll feel better for it.

6| Ice Cream; There's no specific reason for this. We're bleeding a lot and it hurts. We deserve it.

7| Super Relaxing Bath Time; There is probably nothing better than taking a bath when you have your period. The heat! helps wonders, obviously, and if you get full body pains like I do sometimes, you're giving your entire body a well deserved rest. I like to use calming bath salts and bubbles over a typical bath bomb for this kind of bath. And lighting candles helps to set the mood, but that is definitely not necessary. Whatever helps you to feel more comfortable in the end is the best option.

8| Melatonin; This probably seems like a weird one. However, when I have trouble sleeping at night, especially with my period, I like to use this. It's a better option than the over the counter sleeping pill and it cuts out the danger of getting addicted. We all naturally create melatonin, it's what helps us fall asleep. So it makes sense to take a little boost when you're having trouble getting it going yourself. It helps you stay asleep through the night without feeling incredibly groggy the next morning. Win!

And that's all I have! If you do anything different to help combat our pesky Aunt Flow, let me know so I can give it a try!

You know, by Philippa Gregory.

Oh boy, I don't know why I've done this to myself but since I have, I'm naturally going to share it with you. As an avid Anne Boleyn lover/fan/enthusiast, whatever you want to call it, I have a serious problem with Philippa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl. Both the book and the movie. I just... I can't even begin to describe how angry it makes me. But for the sake of this post, I'm going to try.

So buckle up.

I checked this out of the library when I happened to come across it on the shelf. Now, I know I'm going to hate this book. But I did it anyway. And I've let the rage consume me for this post. We all suffer for our art.

First things first, and I cannot stress this point enough, it is NOT HISTORICALLY ACCURATE. I mean, neither is The Tudors and I love that show, but what Gregory does to Anne Boleyn and her family is so far away from accurate that it should be a crime. I'm all for create license when it comes to historical fiction, but it's blatantly obvious while reading this book that Gregory hates Anne. While Mary is the narrator, Anne is most definitely the main character and it's really hard to enjoy a book when the author goes out of their way to make you hate the MC. I've read a lot of Anne Boleyn books, but this one has just blown my mind. There is little to no character development for Anne and everything is based off hearsay. We're told millions of times how charming and witty Anne is to the King, but then we're shown how bitchy she is to Mary. She would have been better off written as George, the only arguable good character in this novel, who actually is charming and witty and will do you reputable damage and then admit to it with disarming honesty and sincerity.

Back to the abuse of creative license: Anne was clever and well educated, but all we get in this book is that she spoke French and read a lot. Anne's ability to discuss politics and religion with Henry was a significant attraction point for him, not just her exotic looks and flirtatious nature. And the whole thing with Henry Percy. OH MY GOD. Not only do they actually run off and get married and CONSUMMATE it, she tells someone who is a sworn enemy what she has done. And they deny the whole thing because they claim it wasn't politically convenient for her at the time and then doesn't even tell the king when it would benefit himself! What the hell? This was a serious plot hole for me and while it goes back to never actually happening in history, it's still kind of fucked up that the author would leave this gaping hole in the middle of the novel and just place a rug over it.

Then we come to the sisters. I could understand if they disliked each other for dramatic tension, yadda yadda, that's been done before. But it's very clear that Anne and Mary hate one another, but Mary is always going out of her way to help her sister and doing what she's told. Sure, she loves her, but why would you throw yourself in harm's way for someone who clearly wouldn't do the same for you?

The movie adaptation of this book is just as bad. Possibly worse because you CAN SEE THE BS HAPPENING. There are three things in the movie that really pissed me off. One, Anne very blatantly, and only accepts the King's invitation to try the whole relationship thing, when Mary has given birth to the King's bastard child. AND A BOY, NO LESS. Back up. Historically, Henry has acknowledged and given titles and lands to his bastard son by Elizabeth Blount. If Mary was to give birth to a boy and it was definitely the King's, Henry would have been over the moon, no matter if Anne was standing in front of him naked. No offense to Eric Bana, but that was a serious lack of character for the King. Second, and another affront to Henry, is that he rapes Anne when he's 'had enough' of her teasing him. This pisses me off because Henry was known to banish courtiers from court for even the insinuation of rape. He would never do something so un-Godly. And third, they have Anne crying on the scaffold of her execution. NO. Sure, it's a scary thing to have to face, but Anne was strong and said her peace courageously in the face of her death. To think that she would have gone out as a slobbering mess is an insult to her memory.

To end this long post short, don't ever read or watch this title. I would go as far as to say to not read anything by Gregory. I've TRIED to read some of her other books, but I just can't. She takes her 'creative license' too outrageously.

PHEW.

Hello Lovelies!

I'm doing something I haven't done in such a long time; a foundation review! I caved in and got some items from Rihanna's Fenty Beauty collection and after wearing it around for a little have decided that I am educated enough to properly write this out. So let's gooo.

I'm still a bit annoyed here. I had ordered the amazing looking gloss that claims looks good with all skin tones, but it was out of stock when they were shipping everything out, so I haven't received it to test out. With my next beauty order though, you can bet I'll be plopping that into my basket.

I did get the following:
Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in shade 190
Full-Bodied Foundation Brush 110
Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby

I was most excited to get this highlighter. It's such a pretty shade and I've been using the left side as an eye-shadow. It's a very white, shimmery pigment, but it looks so lovely on the eyes. The right side has more of a gold tint to it and looks amazing on the brow bones.

I'm always nervous when it comes to foundations because I'm never sure if it'll look right with my face, even if I get the right color. Which, if you've read my blog before, is typically an issue I have. I'm definitely not the best at matching my skin tone. I've ordered all this from Sephora though and they have my skin tone matched, so I had a bit of confidence. I also really love matte foundations, as my skin, particularly my T-zone, can get really oily and shiny. The ultimate test to this was if it could battle the oil. It did last most of the day, but by the time I was home, you could see the oil breaking through. Not at all bad, considering it lasted at least seven hours.

And finally, the foundation brush. I don't tend to buy brushes when it comes to a new collection, but I'd heard such good things about this one that I really wanted to give it a try. I usually use a beauty blender to put my foundation on, so it was weird getting used to a brush again. But it really did a lovely job of blending it in without leaving brush stroke streaks.

All in all, this has been a great collection from Rihanna so far. And if you haven't tried it yet, I highly suggest that you do!

The struggle of just washed, thin hair is not something I would recommend to anyone. And if you know exactly what I'm talking about without having to say it, then I really feel for you. Trying to get a proper hairstyle after you've cleaned your hair and just having it flop around in your hands can be frustrating. Why is looking good so hard?!

Never fear, Kenra is here! This is the only product I've ever used from the brand and I don't think I'd survive a day without it, now that it's entered my life. I've tried sea salt sprays to give my hair some texture before, and while it definitely does give you texture... it also gives you, well, salt. I mean, not necessarily salt, but it adds this gritty feeling to your hair so it's not quite what I'm looking for when I'm walking into work. This stuff is absolutely amazing for giving my strands the grip I'm looking for.

Have thin hair, too? Take a look at the other installations to my Thin Hair Diaries!
