Rereading Harry Potter // The Order of the Phoenix

"Don't worry. You're just as sane as I am."

 Does anyone remember the very last Harry Potter movie premiere, when J.K. Rowling said;

Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.

I mean, yes, you teared up when she said it, when you heard it, but I never really thought going back to Hogwarts would bring so much back to me. This is going to be a seven (duh) part series on my blog where I re-read Harry Potter, annotate my old books, and relive everything that made me fall in love with this series when I was seven years old.

This is something I've tried in the past and only got up to GoF (Goblet of Fire for those of you that might not have read the series yet), so I'm hoping that this project here will keep me accountable.

In the first installment, which you can read here, I mentioned my favorite characters. I'm going to give them score cards and see how they measure up to my current self throughout the series. This should be interesting (probably to no one but myself) considering Draco has been the ultimate favorite since the series ended. The updated scores from the second post are as follows;

Draco Malfoy - 65%
Hermione Granger - 100%
Sirius Black - 100%
Fred Weasley - 100%
Oliver Wood - 100%
Hagrid - 100%
Dumbledore - 90%
Snape - 50%
Arthur Weasley - 100%

So both Draco and Snape went down, as well as Dumbledore. I think, in GoF, this is where we see him kind of wanting to figure out the whole Voldemort puzzle more than caring about Harry's mindset.

Chapter 2, pg 31 // "They guard the wizard prison, Azkaban," said Aunt Petunia.

Chapter 2, pg 37 // "Back?" whispered Aunt Petunia. She was looking at Harry as she had never looked at him before. And all of a sudden, for the very first time in his life, Harry fully appreciated that Aunt Petunia was his mother's sister. He could not have said why this hit him so very powerfully at this moment. All he knew was that he was not the only person in the room who had an inkling of what Lord Voldemort being back might mean.

Chapter 2, pg 40 // "REMEMBER MY LAST, PETUNIA."

Chapter 4, pg 72 // "...He said he's been having to struggle against Dad's lousy reputation ever since he joined the Ministry and that Dad's got no ambition and that's why we've always been - you know - not had a lot of money, I mean - " - I hate Percy 😠

Chapter 5, pg 90 // "Yes," said Mrs. Weasley, her lip curling. "The thing is, it's been rather difficult for you to look after him while you've been locked up in Azkaban, hasn't it?" - Honestly, love Molly, but she's a bitch here.

Chapter 5, pg 97 // "There are dangers involved of which you can have no idea, any of you... I think Molly's right, Sirius. We've said enough." - I think this is so stupid and frustrating. Yes, they're young, but as Harry is the one whose life is in danger, he should have all the information. UGH.

Chapter 6, pg 117 // "Kreacher wasn't quite as devoted to him as to my mother, but I still caught him snogging a pair of my father's old trousers last week." - ew, wtf? lol

Chapter 7, pg 136 // Harry's heart was beating a violet tattoo against his Adam's apple. - ...what?

Chapter 10, pg 199 // "Oh yes," said Luna, "I've been able to see them ever since my first day here. They've always pulled the carriages. Don't worry. You're just as sane as I am."

Chapter 11, pg 212 // ...all he knew was that he loathed everything about her, from her stupid voice to her fluffy pink cardigan.

Chapter 12, pg 238 //  "Probably that you're going to be eaten by a giant marshmallow or something," said Harry.

Chapter 12, pg 248 // Professor McGonagall sat down behind her desk, watching Harry closely. Then she said, "Have a biscuit, Potter." "Have - what?"

Chapter 12, pg 249 // "Well, I'm glad you listen to Hermione Granger at any rate," she said, pointing him out of her office.

Chapter 13, pg 277 // "Yeah," said Harry, before he could stop himself, "that's the only bit of me Dumbledore cares about, isn't it, my scar?" - Sometimes you do wonder...

Chapter 14, pg 302 // "Yes, but the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters." said Sirius with a wry smile.

Chapter 15, pg 320 // "I wonder," said Professor McGonagall in cold fury, turning on Professor Umbridge, "how you expect to gain an idea of my usual teaching methods if you continue to interrupt me? You see, I do not generally permit people to talk when I am talking."

Chapter 17, pg 363 // "You applied first for the Defense Against the Dark Arts post, I believe?" Professor Umbridge asked Snape. "Yes," said Snape quietly. "But you were unsuccessful?" Snape's lip curled. "Obviously." - LOL even better in the movie

Chapter 18, pg 392 // "Yeah, the D.A.'s good," said Ginny. "Only let's make it stand for Dumbledore's Army because that's the Ministry's worst fear, isn't it?"

Chapter 18, pg 392 // "But if you think it's beneath you, you can leave," Harry said.

Chapter 19, pg 403 // "It's good, isn't it?" said Luna happily. "I wanted to have it chewing up a serpent to represent Slytherin, you know, but there wasn't time.

Chapter 20, pg 440 // "I'll plan his lessons for him if I have to, I don't care if she throws out Trelawney but she's not taking Hagrid!"

Chapter 21, pg 459 // A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Ron said, "One person can't feel all that at once, they'd explode/" "Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have," said Hermione, nastily, picking up her quill again.

Chapter 22, pg 481 // "It must have been the aftermath of the vision, that's all," said Sirius. "You were still thinking of the dream or whatever it was and -"

Chapter 23, pg 500 // "One day," said Hermione, sounding thoroughly exasperated, "you'll read Hogwarts, A History, and perhaps that will remind you that you can't Apparate or Disapparate inside Hogwarts. Even Voldemort couldn't make you fly out of your dormitory, Harry."

Chapter 24, pg 541 // "Don't leave it till later, you big second rater!"

Chapter 25, pg 558 // "It's funny, isn't it," said Cho in a low voice, also gazing up at the pictures of the Death Eaters. "Remember when that Sirius Black escaped, and there were dementors all over Hogsmeade looking for him? And now ten Death Eaters are on the loose and there aren't dementors anywhere..."  - POINT.

Chapter 26, pg 596 // "... As High Inquisitor, you have every right to dismiss my teachers. You do not, however, have the authority to send them away from the castle. I am afraid," he went on, with a courteous little bow, "that the power to do that still resides with the headmaster, and it is my wish that Professor Trelawney continue to live at Hogwarts."

Chapter 27, pg 620 // "Well - it's just that you seem to be laboring under the delusion that I am going to - what's the phrase? 'Come quietly.' I am afraid I am not going to come quietly at all, Cornelius. I have absolutely no intention of being sent to Azkaban, I could break out, of course - but what a waste of time, and frankly, I can think of a whole host of thing I would rather be doing." - LOL

Chapter 28, pg 633 // "Impressive," Harry said quietly, grinning. "Very impressive... You'll put Dr. Filibuster out of business, no problem...." "Cheers," whispered George, wiping tears of laughter from his face. "Oh, I hope she tries Vanishing them next... They multiply by ten every time you try..."

Chapter 28, pg 634 // "Now you mention it," said Hermione happily, "d'you know... I think I'm feeling a bit... rebellious."

Chapter 29, pg 655 // "The thing about growing up with Fred and George," said Ginny thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."

Chapter 29, pg 664 // "I should have made my meaning plainer," said Professor McGonagall, turning at last to look at Umbridge directly in the eyes. "He has achieved high marks in all Defense Against the Dark Arts tests set by a competent teacher."

Chapter 30, pg 677 // Dungbombs and Stinkpellets were dropped so frequently in the corridors that it became the new fashion for students to perform Bubble-Head Charms on themselves before leaving lessons, which ensured them a supply of fresh clean air, even though it gave them all the peculiar appearance of wearing upside-down goldfish bowls on their heads.

Chapter 32, pg 733 // "...don't you think you've got a bit of a - a - saving people-thing?" she said. - I mean, true.

Chapter 35, pg 806 // "There's nothing you can do, Harry... nothing.... He's gone." - I hate this book. Sirius, noooooooo.

Chapter 36, pg 808 // But some part of him realized, even as he fought to break free from Lupin, that Sirius had never kept him waiting before... Sirius had risked everything, always, to see Harry, to help him... If Sirius was not reappearing out of that archway when Harry was yelling for him as though his life depended on it, the only possible explanation was that he could not come back...

Chapter 37, pg 841 // AND EITHER MUST DIE AT THE HAND OF THE OTHER FOR NEITHER CAN LIVE WHILE THE OTHER SURVIVES...

Draco Malfoy - 65%
Hermione Granger - 100%
Sirius Black - 100%
Fred Weasley - 100%
Oliver Wood - 100%
Hagrid - 100%
Dumbledore - 90%
Snape - 50%
Arthur Weasley - 100%

And we've lost my favorite character. I dreaded reading this installation of the series the most. In the next post, Sirius and Oliver will be gone from the top list, as they're no longer in the series, really. They'll still be here at the bottom, though.
