Hello Lovelies!

Over the weekend we did a quick little pumpkin carving. Nothing too special. Just a little moon with some stars. Actually, those stars were a pain to do! Anyway, what we really wanted out of the pumpkin was the seeds!

We cleaned them off and pat them dry before giving a light layer of olive oil, salt, and garlic powder. We baked them at 275F for 45 minutes and voila! Homemade pumpkin seeds!

I also wanted to use this post to mention that I don't think I'm going to be posting for the remainder of blogtober. I have a lot of life stuff that I'm trying to catch up on and trying to plan and get a blog post out everyday has really set me back this month. I should be back with another post soon though!

Thanks for sticking with me and reading.

"Keep Moving Forward."

Hello all. I suppose this is a life update. Maybe. I don't know. It's just kind of a thing for me to rant just a little about how much I want 2020 to be here already.

This year has been just such a downer. A lot of downs and not enough ups. I know that usually means that something good is going to happen. I mean... it has too, right? But when you're stuck in a rut of the endless downs it's hard to look on the bright side.

I've been told a lot recently that I'm strong and have a lot of perseverance. It's nice to hear those things, but it's also like it's not really being said about me, but about someone else. Like, am I really those things? Because I honestly feel like I've just been going through the motions of work and sleep and repeat.

All the downs have been a big part of why this year has been a very slow posting year. I've been in such a serious funk and all my energy has been on hiding it, on putting on a face for everyone else. I don't like to talk much about how I'm feeling, which is something that hinders me, I know.

Ah well. Here's to praying and hoping that the next two months go nice and smoothly and 2020 treats me, and you!, well.

♥

Hello Pumpkins!

We did it. We finally went apple picking this past weekend. My husband and I went up to the Red Apple Farm to try our luck this year and... well. A storm had ruined a good amount of the orchard here, but they had plenty of apples that they had picked and salvaged for themselves in crates. So we picked from there.

So that means no pictures of the trees. And no pics of apples because I forgot. But I got some good ones here. We got to feed the goats that they have on site, so that was cute. They also had chickens and bunnies, though we didn't see any of he bunnies as they were free roaming and hiding, haha.

We also got some of my favorite things while at this orchard; apple cider and apple cider donuts. I also grabbed some kettle corn, which is just so nice and amazing when it's homemade!

Hello Lovelies!

As I was preparing this post, I've noticed that I've been tending to do my book shelf tours/updates around the same time every year. I had a good chuckle over that, but why put this off for another month?

I'm constantly buying and acquiring new books, so my shelves are changing all the time. I also added another bookshelf to my office this year, so I have a little more space. Though don't be surprised... I filled it up the second it was built.

I had a lot of overflow...

So here is the first born of my bookshelves. This one holds most of my series and ninety-five percent of my Tudor novels. There are some new babies in here, if you look carefully. As usual, I will link any books I've done reviews on.

Hello Lovelies!

At the moment, there are a few perfumes that I have in rotation. I like to switch up my scents, both for the change and to try and use all of the ones I have. I don't have a lot by some standards, but on the other hand... I do.

Anyway. I've picked four of the scents I've been wearing most for autumn.

1 | Tutti Fruity by Zoella Beauty; Okay... so this isn't really an autumn scent. More like summer or spring. But I just can't help myself with this one. I love it. It's light and... fruity and it gives me just enough to go on for the rest of the day.

2 | Black Nirvana by Elizabeth & James; I got a bunch of the Nirvana scents in travel sizes so I could try them all. The black is one of my favorites and eventually, when this is all gone, I'll be aiming to get the bigger bottle. This has some pretty notes of sandalwood, violets, and vanilla. Pretty perfect for the colder months coming up.

3 | Tresor Midnight Rose by Lancome; This is one of my fancy perfumes. You know, the kind that you usually only wear to important events like weddings and such. Which explains why I've had it so long... This has quite a few notes, including blackcurrant, raspberry, rose absolute, jasmine, vanilla, cedar, and musk.

4 | In Control Curious by Britney Spears; Of course, when Curious came out I was fangirling my way to the mall. Eventually, In Control came out and I got a sample size of it. IN. LOVE. This is my ultimate perfume. Not just for autumn, though that is when it peaks, but for all the time. It has notes like loquat fruit, midnight orchid, creme brulee, black vanilla bean, sugared sandalwood, and musk.

Hello Lovelies!

I commute on the train back and forth to work everyday. So I thought I'd share the bag I use to keep me going. A lot of people like to use backpacks on the train, but since I work in an office, I wanted something that would fit right in.

This lovely bag is from Dagne Dover and it took me forever to find the right bag. But this has everything I need. Pockets for, a computer technically, but I use it for books/notebooks, three pen holders, a water bottle holder, a zippered compartment, two additional pockets on one side, a fancy cell phone holder on the other, and a key clip for your keys! My other bag was close to bursting with everything I was trying to keep in it. With this one, I don't have any problems.

Hello Lovelies!

I've been getting into lipsticks more. I usually stay away from them because my lips get dead skin every now and then, as you do, and the lipstick really makes it stick out. Ya know? But since that issue has been resolved, I've been embracing the lippies. I picked out four from my collection to share for the fall season.

Colourpop Villians in Hades
Colourpop Disney Designer in Belle

Hello Lovelies!

It's that time! the weather is finally getting colder which means my skin is getting dryer. :(

I've revamped my skincare routine, just a bit, for the change in weather. Nothing too much has really changed. Though getting myself to do this everyday has been a bit of a challenge. Not good, since I fell asleep in my makeup the other night.

Going it to take off my makeup, if I remember, I've been using this Pixi x Caroline Hirons cleanser. It's pretty good, but if I'm being honest, you could just use some coconut oil and your normal cleanser, rather than spending the money on this.

Then I like to go in with my Neutrogena grapefruit cleanser. I always double cleanse. Not sure why. But it helps me to affirm that yes, I have gotten all my makeup off.

Depending on whether I've showered or not, I'll use one of two masks. Either the Aveeno 60 Second In-Shower facial, or the Tula recovery mask.

Then it's time for my trusty Clinique Moisture Surge moisturizer. I absolutely love this stuff, as you can see from the huge tub I've gotten of it. Once that has had time to sink in, I'll use a Mario Badescu facial spray.

And then, finally, a lib scrub. I've been liking this peach lip scrub from Colourpop.

Ta-Da! Happy skin.

Hello Lovelies!

So recently I took the plunge and chopped off most of my hair. I had been trying to grow it out but... it was just getting too irritating. And then once I stopped caring about growing it, it became pretty unhealthy.

When I went to the salon, I asked my hair dresser to point cut only, short up to where the shoulder meets the neck, and to have it textured, piece-y, and only just slightly longer in front. I showed them a picture, but the way mine came out was a little different. As is usually expected, but I honestly couldn't be happier.

So how I style it is pretty simple. I throw some mousse in there, blow-dry, section it off, and curl. I've done it with both my hair straightener and a curling wand. It really all depends on how tight I want the curls to be. Once everything is curled, I give it some hairspray and voila! All done. I'm really liking how quick I can get my hair done now. I don't know if I'm going to want to regrow it out!

Hello Lovelies!

So I know I'm a day late here, but yesterday was mental health awareness day. Caps? Idk. I know a lot of people struggle with depression and anxiety. I feel like it's very common in this day and age. The world is hurting and everything is instant. Almost everything we could ever want or need is at our fingertips. And sometimes that's not a good thing.

I don't want to downplay it because depression is a disease. Anxiety is a disease by itself and with depression. The two go hand in hand. Someone you know, at least one person, is struggling with one or both. I'm no professional, but I think it's good to try and remember that what you're feeling right now is temporary. You'll get to where you're trying to go. Things will work out. You ARE worth it. What's meant for you won't just pass you by. Next year, everything could be so much different. So much better.

Other people's journey's don't matter. It's you that matters. Focus on yourself, change your environment, and please remember that small achievements are huge milestones.

Use the checklist I found to keep track of yourself. And if that's too much, just getting up for the day is a win!

Hello Lovelies!

Reading is one of my favorite things, if you couldn't tell. It's probably the only thing in my life that is consistent. I quickly (but lovingly) put together a short list of the books I love to read this time of year. This is the best time of the year to read anything, honestly, but these books have a good setting to them.

1 | Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte; One of my all time favorites. It just doesn't feel like fall without a quick read of Wuthering Heights. There is so much imagery in here that it's almost overload, but in the good sense. This is going to be one of those books that you either love or hate, so give it a try and see what happens.

2 | The Bakeshop at Pumpkin and Spice by Donna Kauffman; The ultimate autumn book! Witches, goblins, a ghost, a Halloween parade, a bakery that I desperately wish was real... it has pretty much everything you'd ever want or need from an autumn book. It's separated in mini stories, so it feels like you're going through it fast and then... it's over before you know it.

3 | Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker; This was my first graphic novel of the year, and I think ever?, and it was just so cute and perfect and ugh. I'm not even going to get into it anymore. Just read this and be amazed because it's perfect.

4 | Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg; Another favorite. This book gives a lot a hard hitting issues in a small package. The seasons change a lot and I will admit, focuses most of it's time during the summer. However, if you can't see Ruth and Idgie frying tomatoes in October with just the slight tinge of color changing on the trees, then did you even read this?

5 | The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw; This is a good one to read as we get closer to Halloween. I don't read many spooky, mystery type novels myself, so when I do I kind of stick to the weird, magical types. This gave just enough of myth and legend and modern world where I wasn't getting sick of reading it. Though I have to say, there are some points in the plot here where I got tired of reading and started to skim. Whoops!

Hello Lovelies!

Last year, I did a post on my birthday listing 28 things I'd learned that year. I was going to do the same thing this year. And then I realized that I don't want to sit and think about 29 things I may or may not have learned.

Instead, I'm just going to say how grateful I am and the first things that come to mind.

More than anything, I would say that I learned better communication with my husband. We've had such a rocky year due to various things that have popped up here and there. It's been a struggle, honestly. It has gotten to the point at times where I wasn't sure if we were going to last the year. But things have kind of evened out. We're all good now, though we still have some things to work on.

Getting through the rest of the year without any kind of drama or struggle is something I'm really looking forward too. I've felt like we had so much personal stuff going on that taking a step back and focusing on just one another and none of the crap going on outside of our control is going to be a big help.

Long story short, communication is key and never giving up when something is hard is the only way you'll find a resolution. In my experience, anyway.

Hello Lovelies!

Today I'm sharing some of my past book reviews. I haven't had the chance to do many this year, but all the ones linked below were great reads! I'm hoping you might find something you'd like to pick up.

1 | So Great a Prince by Lauren Johnson; An interesting book on what London was like during Henry VIII's first year as king. From the point of view of both royalty figures and commoners living during the time. This is non-fiction, so reads like a historical biography.

2 | Furyborn by Claire Legrand; This is a fantasy novel that has three installments. (3rd book has yet to be released). We follow two women separated by centuries, a mother and daughter. How are they in different centuries? You'll have to read and find out. But there's magic and fighting and kissing. So it's worth it.

3 | Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor; A fantasy novel based on a fictional city, a book and lore obsessed orphan, and long forgotten gods and goddesses. Like Atlantis but with books.

4 | The Hangman's Secret by Laura Joh Rowland; A historical fiction that follows a female crime scene photographer struggling to find her footing in the working world that's dominated by men. The hangman has gotten himself hanged! Find out why and how by picking this up.

5 | The Girls of Murder City by Douglas Perry; A non-fiction that details what time was like during the famous age of man-killers and the stories that inspired the play and film, Chicago.

6 | They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera; A novel that centers on an alternate reality. What if we knew when we were going to die? What if there was a company dedicated to that kind of information? And there was nothing you could do about it? This was a wild read, let me tell you...

7 | The Rattled Bones by S. M. Parker; A family mystery, a woman fighting for her place in the 'workplace' of her town, and trauma that would keep you up at night. Some ghosts pop up in here too!

8 | Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman; This is such a beautiful book about coming into your own skin when your family is just a little bit of a mess, you have pretty sever anxiety, and the boy you like likes you back but you have no idea what to do about it.

9 | The Amateurs by Sara Shepard; The author of Pretty Little Liars has another mystery for us and it's quite interesting. A little murder, a little online friendship, a little ice cream. All wrapped up in a pretty purple cover.

10 | Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero; My favorite on this list, honestly. A Scooby-Doo retelling where the monster is actually real! Also (spolier alert) if you've ever wanted to see Velma and Daphne flirt, here's your chance.

"Maybe fate did bother with people like him."

I started this book for two reasons; one, I love crows. Two, my friend told me to. It has been sitting on my bookshelf with all my other unread books and I finally decided that now was the time. Or rather, mid-September. A little autumn read, if you will.

Getting into it, I wasn't really drawn in. My friend mentioned that this is a world the author has written in before, so I had to assume that it was just the characters that were new. To be honest I didn't find trying to figure out the world and what certain words meant that hard. It helps that the author put in a little guide in the beginning of what words meant what. Actually, that was really great, because I really enjoyed falling in love with the characters.

Which makes this book so much more satisfying because, while the plot gets a little slow in the middle, it's because we're getting some delicious character development in there. Be still my heart.

So, if you don't know what this book is about, we're following six criminals that are faced with the ultimate heist. Break into this highly secure and dangerous prison. Return with hostage from said prison. Receive a boat load times a million of cash. (Kruge, in this world.) Sure! Easy peasy.

Within the first twenty pages of reading, I instantly shipped Kaz and Inej. My friend told me that was a good call, so I'm only assuming that means that they'll be together at some point. However, this is a dualology, so I might not see this resolved to my satisfaction until I get my hands on the second one.
My Wraith would plead mercy. But thanks to you, she's not here to plead your case.

There is just something about Kaz that makes my blood boil. Whoo, in all the right ways, of course. I love his type of character. Brooding, mysterious, sly, incredibly smart. Yes. The whooooole package. I found some fanart and omg I love it all. Give this dualology a read, would you? You actually need to read this RIGHT NOW because Leigh Bardugo just announced some of the cast for the Netflix adaptation of Smoke and Bone AND Six of Crows so YOU NEED THIS.

Hello Lovelies!

Since I've opened this blog, I've had a little sidebar showing just what I was currently reading and what would be coming up next. I usually try to stick to that, however, my reading moods change often, so it's not always accurate.

If you look at it right now, it should say that coming up is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. But... it's really long. And I really want to try and read as much as I can this month. So AK won't be getting read this month. Maybe at the end of the month I can start it, but as of right now, this is what I plan on reading for October. Hopefully.

Hello lovelies!

So while I try and make up for a year's worth of lacking posts during blogtober, I have a quick post here on my everyday make-up routine. Which was non-existent until a few months ago when I really figured out what was the quickest way to make me look somewhat alive during the work week. And something that could be done in 10 minutes if necessary.

And it usually is.

As you can see from above, I don't use that many products. The whole point of this is to not spend that much time riffling through my makeup bag while at work. I'm lucky enough to have skin that behaves most of the time, so I use a powder foundation. My eyeshadow depends on how I'm feeling. I switch out the palettes I use every now and then. And sometimes I won't even wear it at all. This particular day was a L'Oreal Roses palette. I used the far left shade as a base and then the far right shade all over my lids.

Products Used;
MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation in NW22
Tarte Aquacealer Concealer in Light-Medium
Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in Soft Beige (I think, the name has worn off)
Too Faced It's Bananas Setting Powder in Banana Cream
found Shape & Define Brow Pencil in 05 Dark Brown
Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in 3
Colourpop BFF Volumizing Mascara in Brownie Points
Colourpop Just a Tint in Gimme S'more or Rise n Shine

So I start off with my concealers. Tarte goes on first; one swipe on the bridge of my nose, three swipes under each eye. Rimmel goes on next; two swipes each under the eyes, two on the side of my bridge, one swipe on either side of my nose, and one swipe over each of my eyebrows. Then I blend that in and go over my entire face with my MAC powder foundation, followed by my Too Faced banana powder.

Next I do my eyebrows and eyes. Pencil, gel, shadow (if I feel like it that day), then mascara. My lips are last, always, and lately I've really been loving my colourpop tints from their Peach collection. The photo below shows the rise n shine shade, but my ultimate fav has been gimme s'more. It's like my actual lip color but better and I'm probably going to buy five more, just to stock up.

Thanks for not barfing at my face. It looks better when it's covered, lol.

♥
